I'd much rather have it be that the era I live in didn't include a rising ethno-nationalist movement which has been able to gain an alliance with a major party because the party thinks that alliance will give them the power to stop their opponents on the left.

If we have been screwing indigenous people, immigrants, the poor, workers, and people of color for centuries, and intervening in other countries attempts at popular sovereignty, then it has been fascism-lite for a while now. It just took orange face for many to realize it.

Does the rise of fascism seem like a “grand drama” to you? I always thought it sounded like a slow sink into a vast lake of shit. Stupidly banal horror. And if we are in the early stages of fascism, that sounds about right.
