What's the equivalent in British political culture of the rural diner D.C. journalists all go to hear real talk from Trump voters?

That's generationally weird: older people get nostalgic for town centres with "proper shops" before they were pedestrianised and replaced with covered shopping centres in the 70s; GenXers remember the days before unwalkable big box retail parks took over.

So the walkable town centres increasingly serve those who don't drive: poorer people, teenagers, OAPs with free bus passes. (Also the immigrant communities who live there. Look for the Polski Sklep in a town.)
