This is wrong. So many of these people were first-timers, coming in through groups like Indivisible. But I think anyone who got involved in resistance stuff in late 2016/2017 can attest that it was not liberal elites, but people from all walks of life coming together in a sense of shared emergency, and finding comfort in that attempt to do something

The institutional Democratic party everyne maligns so much did a good job converting that energy into a large midterm victory and I think gets unfairly maligned (including by me in the past, a lot)

Speaking for the tech world I know, a lot of the stuff that we were so scared of in late 2016 ended up happening in 2019 (deportations, facial recognition, tech government contracts, war on encryption) but with a fatal lull in enthusiasm and appetite for organizing in between
