This is a modern phenomenon in democracies. Dates to approximately 1964 in the US. Two ingredients: (1) appealing to people who aren’t doing well (2) using tribalism and identity politics, via a propaganda media machine. (2) has been kicked into overdrive last 20 yrs.

not really, or even not at all. (hints: you conflate england with the whole uk, thus ignoring scotland and ni; you keep ignoring the influence of media, which was pretty uniformly and consistentnly anti-corbyn across the whole political spectrum, and you discount british racism.)
