I'm deeply baffled by the people who see impeachment as a moral duty (I see it entirley as a political tool) but I've come to accept that this group exists. Just another American mystery I won't ever understand

IMO it's related to the divide between "The American political system is a set of tools designed to achieve a particular goal, and this is one of the tools in the box" and "The American political system is the platonic form of democracy and freedom and goodness"

99.9% of american political discourse consists of trying to reframe the former as the latter, which is exhausting and obfuscates any *actual* disagreements about moral and ethical questions
