At least two of the major candidates for the presidency are showing signs of age-related dementia, and one of them refuses to wear eyeglasses in a way that materially affects his ability to do his job, but there's some weird agreement that this is off-limits to journalism

The problem is even worse for the senate, where senility is rampant and it is now the accepted practice (rather than a shameful display of vanity) to cap one's career by dying of old age in office.

Why is there a lower age bound for the presidency written into the constitution, but no upper limit?

You might say the answer is because voters can choose if advanced age should be disqualifying. But how do they get to make that choice in a Trump vs. Biden or Trump vs. Sanders or Trump vs. Warren or Trump vs. Bloomberg general election?

Who's the other candidate that shows signs of dementia? What are these signs?

Joe Biden. Confusion. He confused Parkland with Sandy Hook, said the El Paso and Dayton shootings were in Houston and Michigan.

It's not even a physician's place to diagnose without an examination, let alone a journalist's.

Clear cognitive decline is not a medical diagnosis, but a simple observation. Everyone can see it, but for some reason talking about it is taboo.

Dementia rates go up by age, but they truly spike up at around age 80. Which puts a discussion about Biden and Sanders squarely in the nation’s “must confront” category

i don’t think it’s weird. dementia is a medical condition and they probably open themselves up to suit by saying a public figure has a medical condition they’ve not been diagnosed with. then there’s the ick involved with journalists attempting medical diagnoses.
