American history twitter: has there been any example in the United States of authorities using live fire against political demonstrators since the Jackson State killings in 1970?

Political demonstrator is a tricky category. The 1970s was a violent time for Native American activists, especially around the American Indian Movement (1973-74 in particular). The 1992 LA Riots saw around ten people shot by officers.

The 1992 riots were riots! It's in the name. The AIM stuff sounds worth digging into, though

Careful with "it's in the name," lest every example of HK unrest during the colonial period gets written off as riots (incl. 1966).

I'm just baiting you. But I think it's easy to see how the L.A. riots are not the kind of thing I'm asking about, a political demonstration (whether or not it was being violent) that police then fired shots into.

That's fair. I think Kent State and Jackson State did a lot to change practices of police brutality in the US, especially when compared to Europe. Compare to the use of live rounds in Copenhagen in 1993, for example.

Wow, what an example. Thank you! I knew nothing about it.
