Wow, that was 11 days after Kent State.

It is horrible, and on top of that the fact that everyone knows Kent State but not many people know this

There are some claims that rounds were fired in Ferguson; I think the police deny it. The MOVE bombing is similar but not exactly what you're asking about.

That's a fascinating thing I had never heard of, thank you (and
@samth) for the example. But it's not the kind of thing I have in mind, a political demonstration (whether peaceful or unruly) by people who don't have guns, that leads to live fire being used against them

Political demonstrator is a tricky category. The 1970s was a violent time for Native American activists, especially around the American Indian Movement (1973-74 in particular). The 1992 LA Riots saw around ten people shot by officers.
-
The 1992 riots were riots! It's in the name. The AIM stuff sounds worth digging into, though

Has the CCP move to use live rounds in HK? That was the natural evolution in Venezuela when we protested. Tear gas->rubber pellets->live ammo One time they started dropping tear canisters from helicopters and shooting live ammo at us protesting below.
-
Then they had paramilitary groups "colectivos" kidnap stragglers from the edges of the protests. Beat the living crap out of us then turn in to the authorities. I see the same script being played in HK.
