Finally swung by this toy shop in Wan Chai's Tai Yuen Street to see the miniature figures arranged in protest street scenes. The level of detail is engrossing.pic.twitter.com/79jb7Ul5Nr

Love the journalist figurines, too—especially the female reporter at the MTR station entrance pointing a camera at a cop who's charging at her with a baton. One middle-aged customer just asked if there are mini bricks (owner said sadly not). "We want to throw bricks at the cops."pic.twitter.com/l5wdCfgF63
The shop manager showed me this "famous photo" (as she called it) from Stand News of two young women being detained. Then she had figurines created based on the photo. She also said she has customers who work for the govt who put these protest figurines on their office desks (!)pic.twitter.com/4vkdLsaPyd
This figurine recreates @LamYikFei's iconic photo from August, when an officer pointed a pistol at a man in shorts, a tank top, and crocs, with a curled umbrella in his hand. Fei talks about his photo here: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/26/world/asia/viral-hong-kong-protest-photo.html …pic.twitter.com/gocPSxcwQG
Of course I had to get a couple miniature journalist figurines for myself. They'll be making an appearance by my desk in the newsroom very soon.pic.twitter.com/ySzIb81Uol
Just noticing that the lamppost is off-kilter in this diorama—quite possibly an allusion to the "smart" lamppost that protesters sawed down back in late August: https://www.hongkongfp.com/2019/08/24/tear-gas-kwun-tong-hong-kong-protesters-surround-police-station-dismantle-surveillance-lampposts/ …pic.twitter.com/TsApaapPzb
The lamppost that spawned a thousand think pieces about the futuristic Hong Kong cyberprotests!
