Americans have flimsy houses, and home renovation reality shows prove it. Try sledgehammering out a kitchen because it's a "gut job" in a 300-year-old European stone house and you would shatter your arms into powder. This is why I would like to watch "American renovator abroad"

The best international house shows are the ones where the couple from Kansas is trying to find a roomy, "child-safe" large house in Tokyo that has a big yard, three bathrooms, and is easy driving distance to work. I could watch those all day.

I wonder how many millions of Americans commute each day from an open-plan office to an open-concept home, both the product of 1990's fads that they had no say in and hate. And even if they get a door, it's a foam-core thing you can hear everything through. Mostly beeping.
