That's about all there is to the story. Hong Kong has been an international port forever, so they're pretty used to dealing with asshole foreigners, and I'm sure this will be no exception. The fact that "left" people are giving attention-seeking nazis attention is regrettable.

But beyond that, are people really this insular? The crisis in Hong Kong is about stuff that matters, but takes a little bit of scene-setting. And the American left has been horrible at this! They come in with parochial attitudes and navel gazing, and a total lack of curiosity

Meanwhile right-wing figures from American politics come in talking about universal values, actually visit the territory, and are quite staunch in their support of what is a freedom struggle. What a shameful wasted opportunity this has been to demonstrate true solidarity.

It's a sad irony of our time that the xenophobic right is extremely good at finding common cause across national boundaries, while the internationalist left is hopelessly parochial and often quite reactionary
