Capitalism cant attract the working class with promise of betterment if class is not fluid. But social origins does not preclude 'rent seeking' - literally the notion of moving away from actual productivity - as one accumulated resource enough to leave behind the working class.

I don't think the Marxist analysis of relationship to means of production maps onto people's lived reality of class. Otherwise we wouldn't have concepts like 'old money'.
