And (this is totally gonna blow Josh's mind here)... ... some people's parents are poor, and don't have the space or the income to support their children living with them into adulthood.

As for this "I'm a working class landlord" business: class isn't a genetic trait. It's not like having sickle cell. If your relationship to the means of production (i.e. being able to live off wealth rather than wages) changes, so does your class - even if your accent doesn't.

Social class is a mix of economic circumstances and upbringing. Someone referring to themselves as a 'working class landlord' is not making a genetic case, but likely referring to their own social origins.

Origins and current status are not the same thing I think is the point.

I get it, but describing the landlord's view of class as something like "genetic trait" was not a fair characterization.

Capitalism cant attract the working class with promise of betterment if class is not fluid. But social origins does not preclude 'rent seeking' - literally the notion of moving away from actual productivity - as one accumulated resource enough to leave behind the working class.

I don't think the Marxist analysis of relationship to means of production maps onto people's lived reality of class. Otherwise we wouldn't have concepts like 'old money'.
