Indeed. Although I note the theory that impeachment would increase Trump's support has not held up either.

True! It's almost like there are two teams just rooting for their side to win.

I bet you’d find somewhere around 41.6% of Americans have not learned the details of his conduct because their news media diet is primarily pro-Trump propaganda.

I don’t think anyone is really counting on this direct and immediate an effect, or at least shouldn’t be. (And I don’t think it should even matter one way or another)

Why would there be a delayed effect?

Was the point of impeachment ever to sway his support base though? Seems to me like Dems hope that Impeachment will drive people who stayed home last election to vote this time
-
There were a bunch of different rationales for why impeachment should happen. I'm just addressing one of them, which was that support for the guy would crumble once his misdeeds were on full display thanks to televised hearings.

Yes. I would also concede, fwiw, that the Ukraine scandal in particular was more of a scandal for the beltway & L&O crowd than others that may have honestly *felt* more scandalous to some.

If you want a deeper cynical take, this doesn’t even mean it’s a bad choice. Since if (when?) impeachment fails it’s these people who we most need to get to understand that the system as a whole is broken and almost all the levers are gone.
