The combination of the internet, linear algebra, human racism, assholes with guns and facial recognition AI is toxic, and the easiest place to break this cycle at is regulating face ID. Apple and Google will just have to keep selling their existing stock of phones to China.

Note that the current discourse around abuse is still centered on Internet phrenology, which is already bad enough to warrant a ban. We haven't even gotten into the uses of facial analysis AI for emotion detection while the subject reads Xi Jinping's/Amazon's weekly newsletter.

to be fair this isn't abuse , nobody is hacking in and stealing data. This is exactly what these facial recognition systems are designed for but they are sold as tools of convenience. We need to stop making technology for oppression.
