For whatever reason, Carrie Lam is either lying about the Sunday protest in Hong Kong, or passing along lies she was told. There were no fires or petrol bombs; instead, police tear gassed a legal march of over 300K people without apparent provocation.https://www.hongkongfp.com/2019/12/03/hong-kongs-freedom-not-eroded-says-leader-carrie-lam-says-us-passes-law-support-protesters/ …

The tear gassing was worse because it occurred without warning in a section of the march where there is no way off the road. The gas landed where dense crowds were being funneled onto an elevated highway overpass. This could have ended in many fatalities. https://twitter.com/ClaudiaMCMo/status/1201082444281106432 …

Perversely, the factor that may have kept people from stampeding and getting hurt in the crush is that so many have now had direct experience of tear gas. Estimates are that 80% of the population has been hit over the five months of the protests

The Hong Kong government and Hong Kong population now inhabit divergent realities. The government lives in a city where National Endowment for Democracy operatives are inciting arson attacks by hardened radicals. Everyone else lives in a city where families get attacked by police

It is revealing that the Hong Kong authorities haven't been able to produce a single demonstration in support of the government since August 17, when they implausibly claimed half a million people showed up in a space that can't fit a hundred thousand.https://www.hongkongfp.com/2019/08/17/oppose-violence-save-hong-kong-476000-attend-pro-police-rally-organisers-say/ …
