WW2 resistance in Poland was very well organized (awesome name too: ZWZ.) They had a black propaganda organization that was kept completely secret from the rest of the resistance and the Allies. Their security system of cutouts was so effective they were never penetrated.

Every resistance group relied heavily on women and girls as couriers, they were the invisible infrastructure that kept the networks from collapsing. They were exposed to significant risk, but are seldom acknowledged for their contribution.pic.twitter.com/39ITcRkrnh

There’s a story about a woman who worked with the French resistance. In the bathroom of a train she used newspaper as a toilet seat cover/protection. The cheap news print stained her skin, leaving her terrified she’d be arrested as a courier transporting a message on her ass.

Downed Allied airmen were smuggled out of France via escape lines that operated as one part of the resistance effort. Women were, again, invaluable for security. Aviators would travel with young women as their escorts on trains. A happy couple got less scrutiny than a solo man.
