Not quite smoked, but several times in Thailand every time the military did a coup and then carefully structured “reforms” and set up a new system the same party would win. A few years later: new coup, new reforms.

Malaysia was an authoritarian democracy with archaic and repressive laws from British colonial era. The corrupt government was booted out after 2 election cycles of street protests.

Maybe the 1990 Russian legislative election? Although technically only Communist Party members or independents were eligible, the deputies turned out majority anti-Soviet in practice and elected Yeltsin as the Russian Supreme Soviet leader against Gorbachev’s wish.
