I want to read a version of 1984 written from Julia's point of view. Competent resistance fighter with a promising career ahead of her gets into a toxic relationship with a middle aged sad-sack with horrible operational security. Hopefully she goes on to a successful Party career

It has always pleased me that the bleakest details of everyday life in Orwell's dystopia (the greasy Victory Gin, blunt razors, pink gruel) were lifted directly from life in postwar Britain, not the Soviet Union. The future is Brexit, stomping on a human face, forever.

Learning about post-WW2 was frankly shocking to me. The post-war boom over here really stands in stark contrast. And it kind of put British Cold War defections in a new light for me as well.

Postwar Britain is a way better refutation of socialism than the postwar Soviet Union, at least until you get into the Virgin Lands debacle
