Beautiful Hong Kong, the night before the first (and only) opportunity people will have to vote in five months of protests. Wishing everyone a safe election daypic.twitter.com/Lhnz5AAD7h

The politicization of the 2019 District Council elections is one of the least expected outcomes of the Hong Kong protest movement. I'm only half joking when I say that!
But when you're only given one election, you use the election you've got. We'll see tomorrow if the people of Hong Kong use these very local elections as a referendum, and whether the police (who will be in riot gear at every polling place) will let them go through unhindered
A somber note in tomorrow's election is that there are still a number of students and young people holding out at Polytechnic University, completely cut off from the city by a cordon of police who insist on pushing the confrontation they provoked to some kind of bitter end.
