I went with to one of my dad's Vietnam vet reunions some years back where they actually had former Viet Cong as guests and doing some panel stuff which was really interesting (and awkward). I enjoyed their "We never hated you guys. Now the French, the Chinese? Them, we hate."

I suspect the pun doesn't work in Vietnamese. It's really easy to find authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Paris though.

It's mostly that Paris Chinese restaurants (takeaways of ready-made food for most of them) are often Chinese- Thai-Vietnamese at the same time, with food only passably related to these three countries.
