I am not a totally evil guy, so some time ago I relented and added an invoice page to Pinboard for people who need to submit stuff to their accountant. But for some reason it lacks what Germans need, and the resulting correspondence has been a rich source of private entertainment

Usually this happens because the EU citizen on one side of the conversation thinks they are communicating with a compliance officer in a tasteful 10-story Pinboard office complex, while the other party to the conversation is wearing pajamas and eating an off-brand hot pocket

The only thing better than these exchanges are strongly-worded GDPR requests regarding http://del.icio.us . If the EU ever fines me 4% of delicious revenue, they'll have to send me a check.

Wholesome German : "But you can't do that!". "Yes, I can." "No, you can't". "I am doing it." Shock!

Was wondering the other day. How do taxes work in the states? Do you submit your account statement and that‘s it? I get audited by the financial office for „odd“ invoices. It’s maddening.

You submit overall numbers, and in a vanishingly small number of cases, you get audited. The IRS has been a victim of political games and the enforcement division is very underfunded, so it is rare to have any kind of audit (at least at my level of income)
