The generation labels also encode a lot of boring nativist assumptions. The country is full of people whose formative years weren't spent in America, or paying much attention to American culture. Just because you don't like your parents doesn't mean I have to dislike mine.

In my country, the cohort the US calls "boomers" was a generation that grew up with hunger, privation, and political terror. Psychologically, they resemble people who grew up during the Great Depression in the US. My mom's refrigerator is full to bursting, always.

I think demographers have fairly well theorized generations, while recognizing that the boundaries between them are fuzzy, can only be defined post facto, and don't cross national borders much.
