Hennessey's ability to be sincerely outraged at Trump, and convinced that we've finally got him dead to rights, is like a superpower at this point. There's an unbroken chain of these tweets stretching back to Election Day. https://twitter.com/Susan_Hennessey/status/1186736380312989698 …

I am not a cynical person and applaud
@lawfareblog's lack of cynicism. But its critique is anchored in a nostalgic belief in "the Presidency" that does not recognize a new political reality. My frustration is similar to@jayrosen_nyu's frustration with both-sides journalism.Show this thread -
The fact that the political institutions of the United States have not come under serious threat since at least the Great Depression makes it very hard for us to deal with Trump. It tempts us to treat their stability as a law of nature rather than run of very good luck.

Act like it matters. That's all you, I, or anybody else can do. Once you agree that nothing matter, then nothing matters. I'll take Hennessy's constant expressions of justified outrage over jaded "above it all" cynicism any day of the week.

I agree with you! But I don't think naivete or nostalgia helps any more than cynicism.
