BTW, keep an eye on international street protests: the Hard Lefties actively field-test in or learn from a variety of international markets. Plenty of Lefties have been checking out Hong Kong and would love to use those tactics here. I expect they will.

What tactics? I'm kind of delighted by this trope of magic tactics in Hong Kong. Do tell!

Dude, you're the one who's been tweeting about them! Use of anonymous Bluetooth communications in large groups is one that I found particularly striking.

Setting up tables of free protest supply shit (goggles, masks, etc) is another item I've seen American Lefties visiting Hong Kong be extremely jealous of (a great on-ramp!), not to mention the "leaderless" structure and coordination.

The leaderless structure is a fascinating one because I don't think it can work in a different context. It depends heavily on three things—collective memory of failure in 2014, an absolutely unbending opponent, and a sense of civic duty that helps dampen extremist tactics

The tables of free stuff I believe is also not a Hong Kong innovation. Not that they aren't awesome!

Regardless, a learning experience -- especially at scale. And you're not the only one going. I fully expect lessons learned in Hong Kong will be incorporated in planning for the big protests Hard Lefties here fantasize about. Curious if that'll be in 2020 or in Trump's 2nd term.

I'll believe Hong Kong tactics can be exported when I see masked black bloc protesters with bricks and metal bars in hand walk through an entire upscale shopping district without breaking a single window, something so routine in HK no one even points it out
