I think we've seen enough to know that Trump is broadly against American troop commitments abroad. I agree that it's obscured by a fog of grift and bluster, but this seems to be a rare genuine political belief he holds

Naw, I think that's off. He's only learned a handful of lessons over the years and applies them constantly, instinctively. One is that Bush Jr got creamed over Iraq. If there's an opportunity to use military force for personal gain, he'll do it.

He has that opportunity literally every day. All he has to do is bomb Iran to absolutely ensure absolute adoration from the media and all the halls of power. But he doesn't do it.

You’re letting words that come out of his mouth count for an awful lot. What we’ve actually seen, he has increased the number of troops deployed.
