Pretty much all US military bases except WW2-era or older ones are theoretically "temporary", made entirely out of kits that can be field-disassembled, because Congress has to approve any "permanent" base. Rather than put it up for debate and authorization, they chose fancy tents

In my time, it wasn't a permanent base unless it had a McDonalds (Navy/Marines) or a Burger King (Army/Air Force). These have neither.
