You should bring a hard hat, clear goggles (the hard kind that protect against impact) and a respirator thing against tear gas. If you can afford to, bring several so you can hand out spares to demonstrators. You can also buy them on Reclamation St. in Hong Kong north of Pitt

Carry your passport or a photocopy on you (it's required by law) when going to protests. That said, you should find it an extremely easy city to navigate, and if you are foreign looking the police will pose no threat to you. Good luck and feel free to DM me with questions
