The best case scenario is for de-escalation and some concessions by the government (universal suffrage as guaranteed under Basic Law, amnesty, independent investigation of police violence) that lets Hong Kong remain an autonomous part of China under One Country, Two Systems.

You have more right to be in this thread than any of us! I think that given a free vote, Hong Kongers would elect someone who could diplomatically deal with the CCP while defending autonomy and beginning to address the very real problems in Hong Kong, starting with police reform

At some point, that elected government would have to start thinking about 2047. But the immediate need is to rebuild trust, heal wounds, and fix (or replace) the HKPF
