One thing that may not be clear from outside of Hong Kong is what an ordeal getting to protests has become. It requires changing clothes en route, navigating a soft curfew by the MTR, avoiding police traps and tons of walking/improptu carpool/waiting for transport. (I want to be clear that the foregoing description applies to Hong Kongers. The police still treats white foreign observers as untouchable and it's a weird and uncomfortable double standard. But I don't want anyone to think I'm being brave)
