A lot of the people attacking PG&E over this outage want major shifts in policy to avert climate change disaster, but the same dynamic will play out there. People will see success as a null result, and point to the very real collateral damage

Prevention would have been doing the maintenance they were required to do and haven’t properly done in years. That’s not super profitable, though … of course they’re being criticized; the need for *this* kind of prevention is their own doing.

I agree the decision was correct but how it was implemented was a disaster. Communication was non-existent, the community care centers are a farce, and they didn’t think abou tunnel closures until the night before??

This is like declaring martial law: yeah you restore order, but at what cost? There were a million other ways they could have prepared for this and they choose the cheapest one, motivated by fears that a fire would tank their bankruptcy

A lot of the critique is over them letting it get this bad in the first place to increase shareholder profits. It's their fault the power outage was necessary.

OK fair the linked article probably discusses all that in detail but I just got my power turned back on and I'm still kinda unhappy with pg&e
