I know it's a lot to ask to empathize with the police, but many are in the same age range as the demonstrators, and are being told to do an impossible mission by a government that hides behind them as shields. Hong Kongers are being pitted against one another very cynically

If the popular movement here can find a way to make common cause with rank and file police members, it will become unstoppable. But it's a lot to ask after eighteen weeks of fear and brutality

I’m sorry but they absolutely are HK police. There are definitely infiltration from beyond the borders, but a healthy mix of locals are doing the dirty as well.
