No one seems to be able to articulate the problem with "surrendering" the Middle East to regional powers other than it is unthinkable. Very reminiscent of the bipartisan rhetoric that kept the US in Vietnamhttps://twitter.com/WillHurd/status/1181251012956475392 …

So you’re saying I can have the Republican Party that invaded Iraq or the one that banned Muslims but not both?

1000% The cavalier attitudes of US politicians and population towards low-grade war (drone strikes etc) are disgusting. Military action should be a very last resort and should be undertaken only with an understanding of it's utter devastation on society.

Right now the consequences are completely externalized on the targeted societies which leads to corrupt decision making. It's a travesty that America has taken in a tiny fraction of displaced persons considering its history of destabilization in the region.

I think there are a lot of good points here. I wish you still had that time machine and could go back and implement them *before* the US committed to the path it’s currently blowing up for arbitrary reasons.
