This appears to be another escalation in Hong Kong police tactics. Malls are private property and I can't remember an earlier incident of cops charging in like this against resistance by management. The odd thing as an observer arriving in early August is that both malls and the MTR were inviolable sanctuaries for protesters. It was like the Dukes of Hazzard—once the county line was crossed, police would stop, even in hot pursuit. Now neither is safe.
