I don't understand why this plan would be a preferable alternative to impeachment...?

What if, sentencing is deferred, but he couldn't go for second term?

Dude, she has a plan for it. She has a plan for everything! ...Don't question her plans.

One doesn't normally go to prison from an indictment... he would still need a trial. I guess the argument is if a president is indicted, it would be harder not to impeach?
-
Thing is that most voters aren't aware of the difference. So they can keep repeating impeach and just let the voters think it means "put Trump in jail". These are just leg/chain pulls.

Easy: the VP covers for him while he’s in jail.

At this point I can only suspect that the Democrats know they don't have the grounds for removing the President from office, and they're only repeating these things on loop because they think it will buy them more votes. Just like saying "immigration reform" every four years.

Presumably s/he would hand over the office to the VP once charged. If they end up going to prison then its already dealt with.
