It's curious that Derp State lawyers on Twitter are so zealous in their calls for impeachment, given that it would be legal malpractice to take a client to trial when there is a 100% chance of losing the case and another remedy is available, no matter how lofty the principle

His base is already mobile. The GOP base *always votes*, that’s part of how their minority rule was established. The relevant variable is whether Dems vote or not. Refusing to impeach gives weight to the view that all politicians are the same, and will suppress Dem turnout.

You can roll your eyes at “truth, justice, and the American way”, but the reality is that a lot of Americans believe in that stuff, and only one party is even pretending to. Only one party targets that demo. It’s a massive marketing failure.

Realism is warranted here, but the comparison to Nixon shows that putting misdeeds on display can sway some of the public. It's a very different political environment now, but even considering Fox, I think the effect is net positive for impeachment. Positive enough? Not sure.

That's the main argument as far as I'm concerned. Moralism about it is window dressing. In the Fox News unreality sphere impeachment might as well already be happening so I think no downside. It's a chance to drive the narrative, and get vulnerable Senate R's on record (Collins).
