I have to say of these 3mo of protests, last night in Yuen Long was 1 of the most terrifying-a combination of the enormous police presence, the small number of protesters & the remoteness of the location. From the moment I arrived, I had a sense of foreboding.

I spent about 3 hours running from police, tho’ I’d done nothing more than dress in black & look like a protester. Because Yuen Long MTR was closed, there was no easy way to escape. Eventually hooked up w kind driver who took us over 20k to Kowloon.

There were hundreds of riot police at Long Ping MTR (I’d arrived via there) & I’d been told it wasn’t a safe exit, plus police movements were scattering ppl in such a way that moving there would’ve required crossing police lines.

That makes perfect sense; thank you for clarifying. I got to Long Ping when there were just a few cops standing around, but as a white foreigner I have freedom of movement here that protesters don't enjoy. I couldn't figure out the goal of the police movements last night at all

The event they were reacting to was the occupation of the mall, but they seemed intent on occupying major streets where the main antagonist was angry locals. It feels like a response with no goal or strategy, just some kind of inertia coupled with arrest quotas
