Trying to resolve the following thoughts I’ve seen today: All software is broken so badly nobody needs to attack crypto. Also, everything now uses TLS and it generally seems to hold up pretty well against attackers who aren’t part of the connection.

It’s pretty hard to imagine any distributed system being safe these days without using TLS or something like it. Can you imagine how crazy the attack surface would be if all the crypto went away?

Not sure I’m with you here either; seems like it’d mostly be the same attack surface for most major applications.
