The LA times piece quotes chants (“Resist Beijing, liberate Hong Kong! Sanction China, now or never! Pray for U.S., pray for us!”) that I have never heard here. Maybe others have. It does not mention the main chants: "Pass the Act!", "Five demands, not one less," "Stand with HK"

Hong Kongers are not exactly making it a mystery what they want, but you would not know this from a lot of the American press coverage. Giant crowd chants "pass the act!" in English in front of US consulate. "What does this inscrutable, angry people want?" asks the US press.

It's going to be hard to take the crown away from the New York Times, who sent a marquee columnist here to report that there is no graffiti in Hong Kong and no sign of protests visible from one reporter's suite at the Mandarin Oriental. I think they all point to Reuters (at least German media) about calling Trump. It‘s ridiculous - why and who would write that they‘re calling Trump for help? Ugh
