Google's August FEC filing is in. Google gave $5000 to Steve Scalise, self-described "David Duke without the baggage", a fervently anti-LGBT legislator who one spoke at a white supremacist conference, claiming it was an accident. Maybe this donation was an accident, too. Oops!pic.twitter.com/SQY874uDW8

The best part of this month's filing is where Liz Cheney's Cowboy PAC gave Google back its earlier $5000 donation, presumably because Google is below even Liz Cheney's ethical standards. I don't often agree with Congresswoman Cheney, but here she is right.pic.twitter.com/EZ5exDymyX

Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina has become a fervent supporter of Donald Trump's war on immigrants, including voting for the declaration of emergency on the southern border after claiming to oppose it in a Washington Post editorial. Google gave him $4000 on July 30pic.twitter.com/BBdf2btjpX

Mike Rounds is another immigration hardliner blaming the self-inflicted crisis on our border (kids in cages, for fuck's sake!) on our allegedly overgenerous immigration laws. Read it in his own words here: https://highlandcountypress.com/Content/Opinions/Opinion/Article/Border-crisis-has-reached-unprecedented-levels/4/22/51674 … Google gave this man $8000 on July 30.pic.twitter.com/yRwuRNlORw

President Trump called Haiti, El Salvador and African countries "shithole nations" at a meeting attended by Senator David Perdue . The Senator claimed not to have heard the President, then amended his recollection to say Trump didn't make such a remark. Google gave Perdue $2500pic.twitter.com/rg171vdCwP

Senator Martha McSally is another immigration hardliner who, among other positions, is in favor of withholding health care for undocumented immigrants. This innovative approach to selecting for only the strongest asylum seekers got Google to write her a check for $5000 on July 30pic.twitter.com/xYgMRQZJzB

Patrick McHenry is a Congressman whose corruption defies easy summary (I invite the interested to read his Wikipedia page), and who has introduced a bill mandating real-time mass surveillance of visa applicants and immigrants: https://www.congress.gov/bill/109th-congress/house-bill/4412 … Google gave him $2500pic.twitter.com/6bLU01uSBy

Those are just a few highlights from ONE MONTH of Google's political giving. Apple doesn't make such donations. IBM doesn't make PAC donations. Microsoft, after employees took action, has stopped making PAC donations. Googlers can get Google to stop it, too, and should!

What worked at Microsoft was employees reaching out to coworkers to let them know where their PAC donations (taken as a payroll deduction) were going, and making noise internally. The list of Google PAC donors is public data, part of the filing I'm citing: https://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/072/201908209162989072/201908209162989072.pdf …

In past months, I've highlighted Google's awful anti-LGBT donations. This month, I picked stuff that was anti-immigrant. The pattern is clear: Google's political giving is completely divorced from the company's stated values and the values of its employees, and it needs to stop.

There's been discussion of whether Google should be booted from the San Francisco pride parade because of hate speech on YouTube. But let's not just blame YouTube! Journey with me into a thread of political donations Google has made in support of hate. https://www.advocate.com/pride/2019/6/07/will-google-get-booted-san-francisco-pride-parade …
