NYC is closer to what you’re advocating for than anywhere in the US (and I’d trade a bus to LGA for a subway that runs 24x7).

The stuff you’re describing is great and we should get more of it in the US. That’s why I don’t like cheap shots at imperfect, high-traffic, working examples.
