Hello, my name is Pinboard, and I am smart, but I am not smart enough to correctly use or understand a password manager. I am not fully clear on what is local, and what is remote, and what backs up to where, and what on earth a "vault" is. Consider this my confession.

I don’t ever actually type passwords these days except maybe my computer password. I always generate the password in

I keep all my passwords in Pinboard. I just mark them ‘private’

You can have them write it down somewhere. If your threat model excludes compromise of a device, you can even store it in a text file until they memorize it.

I realize you are making a broader point but would suggest using two different password managers, one with minimal selection. They don’t work well with each other at the browser plugin level but you can use eg lastpass in browser and dashlane as client.
