Imagine American protesters shutting down an airport - any airport - over an incident of police brutality. In so many ways, Hong Kong puts us to shame.

We did not-so-long-ago have throngs of protestors filling up many cities. I don’t know what happened.

What happened is that we replaced the entire House and saw that it had no effect.

Well that too. But I was thinking about OWS.

Oh. Damn, I actually forgot about that. I think the HK’ers message is much crisper and strikes at a more fundamental level on the Maslow hierarchy, maybe?

Oh yes. They have more immediate threats. But I was just thinking about how we’ve gone from widespread protest movements to bubkis in less than a decade.

I originally thought you were referring to the airport protests from ~2 years ago. Though those were mostly just hours in duration and not even mildly disruptive, as far as I recall. So I mostly agree, but we have had protests more recently about urgent topics.

The comforting thing about living in a time of decline is that someday whatever point you're at will be a higher point to look back on.
