I'm in a situation where I want to move my SIM card from phone A (an iPhone) to phone B (Android) and back. I want to keep using Signal as I do this. Am I reading the Signal docs right that say "LOL, we'll delete all messages from your iPhone and Signal desktop" if I do this?

Try backing up phone A's Signal database then restore when you return from phone B. I think Desktop will then reload all the messages which takes a while, or backup and restore that too, haven't tried that on Desktop though.

Unless you need the specific number, I add an extra digit to the Signal number in phone B, C, D ... and rely on overdial which NZL networks seem to support for 1 extra digit. ...

So base number is +64123456789 Signal on phone B is +641234567891, C is +641234567892 etc. SMS from Signal install for phones B, C, D ... is sent to the phone with the +64123456789 SIM card. Does that make sense?

It does! I will try it on a phone pair where I'm willing to lose data if things go wrong. Thank you!

Good luck. I've seriously lost my rag with Signal trying to use it for secure messaging from multiple servers without having to to buy and maintain multiple mobile numbers purely for the Signal registration. That gets expensive and difficult to maintain in a hurry.

I appreciate the help! Part of the joy of Signal advocacy is discovering new reasons to hate it
