This brouhaha is about client-side ML? There should be more client-side ML. This sucks but also partly because of FB reputation crisis. Their denials aren't believed either and people suspect everything. Which isn't good for anyone. (I'm still angry over 2FA phone no targeting).
Since you replied to a joke tweet, here is a serious reply. It is hard to convey these distinctions to the audience of legislators, policymakers and law wonks that needs persuading. "If you trust FB to make the app, why not trust them with data" sounds like a reasonable argument

You're right, and I have this argument frequently, because it sounds weird. Can't really fit all the various ways app infrastructure/delivery is much harder to tamper with without a tweetstorm, and I can think of a handful of successful attempts, which I believe involved an APT.
