Any software reliability technique should explain how it introduces risk in the system. Retries can DoS a system. Circuit breakers can silently stop a service. Buffering to a file can fill the disk. Sometimes it's better to just crash and lose data

Retries are even more evil, they can corrupt state if the call is not idempotent.
