More Microsoft news: Director of MSPAC Kelly Eaton has left the company, according to several internal sources. This is the same person who at the end of June warned employees that discussing the PAC with contributors could constitute "harassment" (see https://idlewords.com/2019/07/microsoft_s_hypocrisy_on_daca.htm …)

So in the last few days, Microsoft not only suspended political donations through its political action committee, but the director of that committee left the company. Does anyone know of another example of internal employee pressure shutting down a major corporate PAC?

Corporate PACs are a universally vilified part of our campaign finance system, but they have proven indestructible. Microsoft workers not only got theirs suspended, but pushed through a governance reform that will put employees at the table for the first time if it comes back

And I say "if" because the suspension is intentionally left open-ended. I believe that further efforts inside the company now can shut the PAC down for good, and that Microsoft will find itself in a far stronger position if that happens. People want to be proud of where they work

fall isn't open ended; Microsoft is very calendar driven and fall is any time from September to November. the director leaving *is* a big thing though, as is new governance if it delivers real control by mainstream employees

I'm familiar with the concept of fall! But I think it's significant to say fall and not October 1 (or whenever). The company is giving itself room to kick this can down the road and I hope employees find this as encouraging as I do

they can certainly keep kicking the can but compare it to a definitive reaction like restoring the usage rights to partners which they committed to recently.

I think it's the governance employees should find encouraging (as well as the fact there's been any change at all on a topic there didn't seem to be any room for movement on before); the bad publicity &the clear opinions from employees have definitely moved the dial

Right, it's the fact the pressure is working that is the story. No one else has gotten this far
