The anniversary of the moon landing is a great reminder of how it messes with your expectations to be on a "we thought it was exponential!" technology curves when it flattens out, as is happening with computers today. I gave a whole talk about this! https://idlewords.com/talks/web_design_first_100_years.htm …

Efficiency. Cost. Power envelope. Peak:normal current. Production volume.

Yeah. We could probably get exponential growth in the number of case designs and mouse cord colors, too, but you know this isn't what people signed up for. We wanted that sweet 1THz CPU!

disk I/O is actually doing pretty good (sata SSD, m.2 SSD, PCI express SSD) relative to memory speeds, I'm just sayin' https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=corsair-force-mp600&num=4 …

In addition, hard to argue this is "exponential", but software itself is getting better. AlphaGO was trained with a ridiculous number of GPUs, sure, but those GPUs would have been useless without our recent crazy advances in neural networks.
