As the Bay Area housing crisis deepens, we are free introduce the wokest possible regulation at no real price, since it will apply to purely theoretical new homes. Rent control? A dollar a year! Green construction? Hell yeah! All water must be sustainably sourced from @KarlTheFog

As the Earth's species go extinct four one-hundredths of a second later than they would have done without this measure, we'll all be glad we kept straws from disabled people, and banned Berkeley residents from making a decent risotto

This is just like that time Berkeley ended the Cold War by declaring itself nuclear-freehttps://www.dailycal.org/2018/08/08/berkeley-nuclear-free-zone-unfortunate-consequences/ …

Berkeley is just preparing for our nuclear powered future. Of course the nuclear plants won't be in Berkeley, it's a nuclear-free zone. They'll be somewhere in the state of Jefferson, or perhaps on the Colorado River

I guess they figured this was easier than making the gas supplier actually check their pipes before more houses get blown up?

Also the fact that if you're going to heat something, burning NG at the point of work is about the most efficient way to do it. It's the one thing fossil fuels are the better answer for until electricity generation is free and unlimited.

Saying this as someone who is generally very critical of Berkeley's city gov't.... this is a good thing. Gas lines cause fires due to earthquakes and, thanks to PG&E, utility incompetence. Mini-split heat pump systems are a cleaner, safer, and efficient way to heat homes.

I know nothing can replace a gas for cooking but induction isn't bad. If you really want a gas, you can use a propane burner, like millions of Americans who don't have natural gas service already do.
