I am in the field and have no idea what a "cryptonetwork undergirded by blockchain technology" is. But the NYT feels it is important to publish a call for it, on a page that is full of undisclosed tracking by Google, Amazon, and a dozen other financial partners of the NYT.

This conflict of interest is so pervasive that I genuinely believe the New York Times's editors don't see it. They would never accept it as ethical in any other part of the paper. Because the paper got rid of their Public Editor, the only recourse is to call them out in tweets.

I called repeatedly on people at the NYT to add specific disclosure of financial relationships to the Privacy Project, and they tacked on the current mealy-mouthed footer that says "read our privacy policy and this vague letter from our publisher". That is unacceptable.
