I created a spreadsheet of the 173 House members who voted against the Equality Act, which would extend legal protections to LGBT Americans. It shows how much each person voting no was given by tech companies who are today vocally celebrating #pridehttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uFEz7gD_d8Fidcf1K5byNID11Ji5BKFpOMDZc4ShS_A/edit?usp=sharing …

I'm highlighting these donations because I find them doubly offensive. First, because equality under the law is a foundational American value, not a political issue. Second, because these companies work harder than anyone to wrap themselves in the rainbow flag while funding hate

The good news is, if you work at these companies, you can help defund the PACs! The list of donors is a matter of public record that you can find on the FEC website (I can help you). Many of the people donating are appalled to learn where their money is going once told about it.

By request, here is the complete list of employees donating to the corporate PAC for Microsoft (https://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/226/201906199150098226/201906199150098226.pdf …) Google (https://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/811/201906209150154811/201906209150154811.pdf …) Amazon (https://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/359/201901319144420359/201901319144420359.pdf …) Facebook (https://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/356/201906199150125356/201906199150125356.pdf …) Salesforce (https://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/840/201901319144293840/201901319144293840.pdf …)

The last thing I'll say is that giving money for bigotry is NOT a cost of doing business in the United States. Both Apple and IBM decline to run a corporate PAC and do fine. Google, Microsoft and Amazon could shut down their political donations tonight with zero consequences.

The second last thing I'll say is that in 2018 a single
@intel employee (who was not even a US citizen) got Intel to stop funding Steve King, the overtly white supremacist congressman, by pointing the conflict with Intel's stated values to management. You have a lot of power!Show this thread

Why does walking advertisement for term limits Jim Sensenbrenner get $10k from Google? He's got his own money for crying out loud...

wait, if they give equally to both parties, what is the _point_ of them just to keep primary challengers from getting in office and actually changing anything?
-
The individual donations are pretty targeted and don't go to everyone. They just work to keep the total given roughly balanced across parties.

I work at
@Microsoft, can you please explain how/where they can collect funds from me as an individual? Would this be an end of year thing, a standard paycheck deduction? I dont see my name on the tax form, but curious how they collect these funds for these or other reps/causes -
Looking at the FEC filings, almost everyone does this as a paycheck deduction. At many companies, you are solicited/encouraged to do this, particularly as you climb the executive ladder. I'll RT your question so you can get MSFT-specific answers!
